Are there wolves where you live?

Pretty much, cities are far more dangerous than the forests these days... We do have a mountain close to where I live called Arrábida and we have quite a few wolves there. We listen to them at night, but they don't approach us. Even during the day we can see them when we are hikking or simply...

TOTALL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN --->

2045 huh? :D Yeah, it's just around the corner. I wouldn't make much plans for the next century if I were you though. :p

What makes a Great Trip ?

Yeah, it's all about the fun, but surely we need to know what we are doing. The first time I went in a canoe it was in the winter, and I had no experience. We were going down a river with considerable volume, so I got paired with one of the most experienced guys. He just told me, on the more...

    Wearing shorts or pants?

Yeah, pants are far better @Jasmin Cottontail, but there is that issue with jogging pants that the fabric is too soft and we might get hurt as well, so nothing like having a another sort of fabric (not jeans of course) that are comfortable, but resistant at the same time.

    GPS Navigation

Really @Bibsoutdoors? :) I suppose that is something genetic in them, they need to know where they are heading, and most likely they love giving us directions! :D

    Beware of forest fire

Yeah, maybe 10 years ago I was near a fire, it was scary let me tell you. We were about to go kayaking, when the organization told us that it would be dangerous as the fire was approaching the river, so out of precaution we didn't go even if it was at a safe distance.

You have three kids and one backpack, what do you take on the trail?

Three kids huh? How old are they? First, each one carries their backpack with water, and snacks, so basically we divide the weight for all according to the age of course, but it's important for them to realize that they need to carry their own stuff. Wipes is a good idea, but not much more than...

    GPS Navigation

LOL. :D GPS is fine, it's usually on the phone, when we do have signal, not more than that. If not, I simply stick with local directions or the old plain map. The wife loves the map, so she is my walking GPS when everything else fails. :)

TOTALL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN --->

Wow, premium values to see the total eclipse, everyone is capitalizing on the event! In my lifetime I think I've seen total eclipses just twice, the first I was a kid and I was really impressed as everyone was talking about it, but then it was just the moon passing in front of the sun, and...

What makes a Great Trip ?

Thanks, great to be back. :) Haha, have you had a bad experience in the water with someone? :D Lately my kids have made my interest gain a new joy because nothing like passing onto our kids the stuff we love to do, and I know these are the moments they will remember forever. :)

What makes a Great Trip ?

When I first read the title of the thread the first thing that crossed my head was the people that are with me, but I see you take this to another level. :) Nothing like good preparation and the right state of mind though, if we have both we surely will have a great time.

Which is better: Walking or biking on the trail?

Yeah, pretty much like @Northern Dancer dancer says on both posts, we can hike or bike, we should do what we feel like doing in that particular day. Hiking is ok, but I prefer biking most of the time, as I love bikes and we cover a lot more ground. On more remote locations hiking is definitely a...

    first campout

Great picture right there, thanks for sharing it. Yeah, you don't carry much, but all in all we don't need to take many things along, even more when we are using a boat to get there. Nice setup overall, great experience I am guessing. :)

    Camping Nude

Yeah @Madman4800, I am not the biggest fan of nude camping really. Not that I have ever tried it, but at the same time it doesn't seem practical to have my body more exposed, insects and the wild would make it uncomfortable. Also, without pockets, where would I carry my stuff around? :D

Do you swim in the lake/river/pond when you go camping?

Haha, pretty much as I feel too! To be honest, I do prefer the beach over lakes or rivers, but when camping nothing like making the best of the situation and enjoying what we have. There is this particular river we go with the canoe, and we always stop for a swim. :)

Whаt аrе thе bеnеfits оf саmping?

Something as simple as the fresh air makes all the difference. Years ago I was camping in the German/Austrian Alps (how beautiful can it get), and I wasn't even aware of the quality of the air I was breathing, so when I returned back to my city and started to fill my lungs again with pollution...

    Favourite camping games.

The best camping games for me are simply playing cards, as it's something that doesn't occupy much time, and everyone can be entertained playing. There are a multiplicity of games, so we never get bored. During the day there are other games we can do, hiking, well, a lot of stuff.

Foods that are ready to eat?

Everything in a can is ready to eat, but my favorites have to be tuna and beans, as they combine well together. If we want to add some olive oil, onions and tomatoes, we have the perfect fast meal without cooking, and most would appreciate it. ;) Salami and cheese would work fine for me as well...

    Catching your own food

Pretty great when we have friends who fish for us right? I can totally related with that! :D My kids get all worked up in that process, as they do love to fish, and to see the meal preparation. When the food gets to the dish, they are usually starving! :)

    Hiking at Night

Yeah @Northern Dancer, if we don't know the nature and wildlife around us, we are better off not camping at night or any time of day, because we will put ourselves and those around us in danger. Camping is suppose to be fun, but it requires some knowledge or else we can mess it up.
