    Thick canopy and proximity to the coastal fog. I live under a thick canopy of madrones, tanoaks, pine and just a few redwoods, but 30 miles inland. The place I like to camp is a little lower altitude but dropping toward the coast. Microclimate

    Yeah, i mostly need lights if I have work to do, otherwise I enjoy the night. This is especially true when we have meteor showers.

    Where I live, it has been 100 degrees, but 30 minutes away, it is 65 degrees under redwood canopies. I spent the hottest days this summer camping.

    My essentials for camping

    Wow...that looks so organized and comfy. My last camping trip was wild, with 8 adults, 10 kids and four dogs. Six nights, sev3n days. It was messy sometimes but fun with the nearest campsite way down the road. I need the next one to be much quieter.

    I was relying too much on solar rechargeable lights, which is unreliable when camping in the redwoods since we get those misty, foggy days. They help but now I'm looking for new options while getting my battery powered lights put. I really don't like it when my friends pull out their gas...

    Wow things are heating up.

    The coldest nights we have had recently have been in the mid-50s. Unfortunately I haven't attempted to camp in anything colder than that, but maybe someday I will try winter camping here in Northern California.

    20 Things Only Reall Campers Know

    This is all true. I consider it glamping when I remember all my gear, the air mattress stays firm through the night and there is fresh running water within a mile. I need to buy some of those heavy duty tent pegs and I have never peed into a bottle
