The second map you posted it looks like part of it extends all the way up towards Alaska and back down again, I can understand the more southern parts of the trail getting a lot of use but that seems strange to me.
I am really thankful for our great national parks system.
I have a portable handheld Garmin GPS, it is meant for drivers on the road but it works just great in the wilderness too. I haven't had to use it in an emergency yet, but it is nice to know that it's there.
That's unbelievable, is it from coast to coast? Do you know how long it has been under construction? I would imagine some parts of it have been around for years and years but there was also lots of effort to connect it all together.

Although I have thought of experimenting with some solar panels and a small mini-fridge but I fear it might use too much power.
Generally they are less bulky IMO, because they can deflate and fold down to be small enough to fit in a backpack. It is the not inflatable ones which are often heavy and bulky but I guess that is not much of a problem depending on your proximity to your camp site.
When you enter the water the life jacket is going to want to float and you are going to want to sink. To make sure it fits right you should pull the jacket upwards, if it fits right it will stay in place and you head should not slide down too much. There are usually straps under the arms that...

One of my favorite camp fire dessert recipes is chocolate rice crispies, you can make them in a big pot over the fire and eat them off a spoon once they've cooled a little bit.
That's why I find protein bars are a good mix of sugar, protein and fats. If I eat pure sugar I will crash again quickly and be worse off than when I started lol
