    Sleeping Bag or Cot?

We normally sleep in sleeping bags on the floor of the tent (although we did have an inflatable mat for two trips that we no longer have). We actually sleep on Japanese style futons on the floor at home, so it feels pretty natural that we would sleep the same way while camping. However, the...

    Sweet Energy Source

They sell little honey sticks that are in a straw-like tube. My doula had them for me when I was having my youngest since eating is frowned upon while in labor at a normal hospital. Perhaps I could just use small reusable containers... It's the same concept anyway. I find protein does better...

Do Citronella candles work? Whats the best brand?

I've only tried the huge incense stick looking things and the worked ok as long as there was a "perimeter" created. I stepped out for a few minutes and it was like they were waiting lol. Also, they're not fun to keep the kids away from if you stick them in the ground. I have a hard time...

How Can I be sure a life jacket is on properly?

They usually have weight ranges. Some are zippered, some have buckles, and some have both. My 1 yr old has an infant life vest for kayaking. My 2 & 4 yr old have youth vests which we also use for kayaking. I would say as snug as possible without hurting... Cause if they're not, they might...

Best way to keep food cold?

We do coolers. Someone suggested 2 separate coolers, which we tried on our last trip and it worked great. Frozen stuff in one, stuff like drinks and other things that you would need to access more frequently in the other. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Low carb camping?

Olives. They sell those in snack packs now at some stores... Macro Bars Some stuff keeps better than others so that's also something to bear in mind. Seaweed snacks Sardines Carrots and guacamole dip (another thing that won't keep long depending on how you store it, store bought should...

    Water Filtration System?

Right. I tend to think the lifestraw doesn't look enough like a straw, but I ended up buying a camelbak and he seems pleased. Well all of them really, hovering around me like baby birds for their turn to drain the 2L bag. So far I haven't needed a filtration system, but if we get into more...

Creating Fire Using the Old Technique

I really want to try the bowdrill method. I haven't, yet, but that might be a good project for next week. I'm really feeling ill this week and backed up on work... But it'll give me something to look forward to besides sewing a million diapers lol. Plus, each kid can have their own "bow". I...

    Water Filtration System?

Interesting. I considered buying my son a lifestraw because he wants to drink lake water off of his hands when we're kayaking... Definitely not a swimming safe lake. I can't figure out why he tries to do that... I'm forever wiping him off. I just don't know about the lifestraw. Sent from...

    Low carb camping?

Cheese & lunch meat rolls. We do lettuce and meat. Kale chips made ahead of time. (Ridiculously expensive premade) I'll keep thinking. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Low carb camping?

Maybe eggs boiled ahead of time? We can't do that also due to allergies lol. Dark chocolate. We don't do much dessert aside from coconut ice cream. I wanted to try one of those ice cream balls, but the container is so small there would be fights (2 step and 3 bio kids). Probably going to try...

    Low carb camping?

We're an Auto Immune Protocol family, so we don't eat much outside of fruit carbs... We pack frozen meat and vegetables in one cooler, fruit and drinks in the other. Seeds, jerky... You could do nuts; we don't since my son's allergic. Um... Trying to think because I've been on it so long I...

A little R&R in the yard.

We need more trees lol. My family sends hammocks from Puerto Rico, we have about 3 of those and one "camping" hammock. That's the life right there, chillin on a hammock. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Packing Light

Hah my husband was in the Navy 20 years, what's his excuse? Actually, that reminds me to talk to my grandpa... He was in the Army for 27 years and a Vietnam Veteran... He knows how to pack lol. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Favorite Camping Gear

We can't do marshmallows anymore, but I found a recipe to make my own. I was also thinking hot dogs over the campfire would be good. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Favorite Camping Gear

That she is. I wish I could count my kayak, but, unless we do some straight up waterfront camping, Coral probably needs to stay home [emoji22] I think were going to Lake Kerr next. Maybe! Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Kinda Curious...

I have a few floating around here somewhere... Yes, the only cicada we encountered decided to fly directly into the camp fire. My step daughter tried to save it. The rain itself wasn't that bad. I threw a towel over the child who was taking the most drips and we ended up reusing clothes...

    Packing Light

I tried to wash some clothes this last trip and the humidity was so bad, even my bamboo and other athletic clothes didn't dry lol. Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk

    Kinda Curious...

Yes that was one mistake we made this last trip. No one checked the tent, which had holes. I did check everything else we pack, cleaned up, reorganized, took out unnecessary items, etc. The sleeping pad was also covered in mold when my husband rolled it out, but that wasn't a huge setback...
