    Coon Den Falls

I was off for 3 days this weekend so we tried to enjoy it. Went to Coon Den Falls Saturday morning near Watauga lake in east tn. We haven't hiked in this area before, so this was our first time. We stopped at a hostel, where thru hikers on the Appalachian trail could stop for the night, and...

    Temporary Van Conversion

Welcome back missyify. Congrats on the new family member. I wouldn't know where to start or what to tell you about van conversions. The pvc bed thing is good idea if it works out. Comfort is key when you have kids. The only things I can think of is pack plenty of food and snack stuff, something...

4 hour drive there. That would be great to go at least for a night or two. I like the rock area at your landing, it's clean looking. Here there is very little sand or rock landings. Most are muddy banks. I use a towel instead of a sponge in my canoe cause a towel can wipe up mud easier, and I...

    Hammock packing

I purchased a hammock awhile back because it was light weight and packable. Then I purchased the tree straps, mosquito net and finally the rain fly. Each one of these comes with their own individual bag. That's 4 items and 4 bags, right? Now, it takes a couple of minutes per item to pack in...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Thank you Bulldoginajeepwithacolt. I figured if I posted it I would have to finish, and not put it aside for long period of time. I saw someone on TV work wood by hand, and I thought I would give it shot. I've got a couple of months to kill till it cools enough for camping. I am thinking about...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Not much to do with camping, but I mentioned to Northern Dancer that I liked his curved canoe seat so I started to make an upgrade style, like his. for my solo canoe this is the standard flat seat that came with it. I had some ash wood from a tree that died in my neighbor's yard, it's a shame...

(All being equal the next camp is at the end of the month for seven days, a weekend with our scout group the third weekend in September and then back to Algonquin for ten days camping/canoeing in early October.) Wow you got it all planned out. I see partial retirement is agreeing with you. Now...

Fabulous! Looks like you had a great trip. Isn't it amazing that the tree root would grow around a horse shoe? Love the pictures. I'll be looking at this again in anticipation of my next trip. That is a great looking area with plenty of wilderness. When I seen the picture of the frog I...

    GLAMPING [There...I said it]

I remember asking you all on here what glamping was. If a person wanted to invest some money, this could be a great business. Glad to see you two on line also. Been a little quiet on here past few, of course I ain't contributed much.

    Thwart Bag

Nothing wrong with that. Ya know those seats look really comfortable in you canoe. I like how they're curved. I noticed the paw print on the inside front part. I would guess that boxed in area is for floatation? Is it foam filled or a sealed air pocket?

    Vintage trailer across the US

I was wondering about rules against older campers and motor homes. I've seen several place around here that the campgrounds have turned into an old run down rv area on the water. Lots of people restoring older campers. I like the retro looking ones. I guess I would check ahead and make sure...
