    The Ideal Weapon

I agree with ND. I bought a small thing of pepper spray years ago for snakes and whatever may crawl up to me when camping, and also for when my wife and I traveled to what friends and family said were high crime areas like DC, Chattanooga, Atlanta, St Louis, or any other city. It went past it's...

    Snow camping?

That looks interesting. Maybe one of these days I can do something like that. I guess I am a little to far south for that. I hope you have a good camping trip next month.

    Snow camping?

When you northern people go snow camping, how do you deal with these issues. Getting snow in the tent from around your pant cuffs and on your boots, and does this cause alot of problems when it melts and get your stuff wet? What about the area in front of the door to your tent...

    Ever Hear of the Hantavirus

I have heard of something similar years ago. Someone I worked with said her son contracted a type of lung virus or bacteria from cleaning out cow stalls, and by the time they figured it out it was to late. I have read about Giardia that CherylT mentioned, so I figured if I get ill some time...

Do you eat more or less than usual when you're camping?

We never expect to catch any, so we always bring food. But if we do catch any, we only keep enough for one meal. I would starve to death if I had to depend on my fishing skills.

Do you eat more or less than usual when you're camping?

Yes. We only keep enough for a meal. Most of the time we bass fish, but if we can we will try for a couple walleye or crappie for eating.

    CHUCK ROAST FOR TWO GUYS...

Yes thankyou very much. I mat try that next time when camping. Would this also work in cast iron dutch oven, or would it have to seal tightly?

Do you eat more or less than usual when you're camping?

When my brother and I go, we usually pack all kinds of food. We eat like chow hounds. We love cooking over an open fire, and nothing beats fresh fish. Which the fishing part is what determines where and when we camp. [emoji488] [emoji490] [emoji505] and [emoji226]

    Carrying Water

When my wife and I do a day hike, I will usually carry 5 or so 20 oz bottles of water. A few years ago we were hiking every other weekend in the smoky mtn, and she joked about me being the pack mule. One of those filtration systems would have realy been nice. I do need the extra exercise tho.

How do you keep Raccoons from enjoying your camp?

Better late then never. I would hate to use my toxic socks, it would probably wipe out the racoon population. My dad and I camped near Tampa Florida late February. We had frozen shrimp in the cooler (which was our bait) before bed dad mentioned that the coons may get after it during...

Do you plan to camp weeks in advance?

I try to plan ahead because of vacation scheduling at work and making sure mama is happy while I am away (she don't realy care for camping). My friend and I were getting ready to go, so I had everything in the basement ready to throw in and go, but somehow I forgot my 0 degree bag sitting on...

Winter Camping - Which heat source?

That wood stove is realy cool. What's all that white stuff on the ground?! It's about 62 degrees outside right now. I like snow. I grew up in gaylord Michigan, and moved down here in the hills of tn. I miss snow.... it's purdy

Winter Camping - Which heat source?

I use a Mr heater buddy also. I live in tn so the winters arn't as long or cold as y'all have it up north. I love the wood stove setup, and had no idea how small they are. We normally base camp somewhere on a lake. My brother and I throw our stuff in a boat and take off for 3 or 4 day. We...

    TNF Founder Douglas Tompkins dead...

Yes he will be missed. His dedication and contributions to wilderness preservation will not be soon forgotten. Lots of people never think about the real person that started a successful and widely used product.

    Anyone use a sleeping pad?

I bought one of the self inflating Ascend brand. Used it right after buying it, and wasn't impressed. I read that when you store them you should open the valves and hang them up. If they are stored rolled up, and compressed, the foam on the inside retains the compressed memory and doesn't work...
