    Best bug repellent?

    ...there is no best brand actually. It all depends on individual need, age of the person and the immediate environment. Deet seems to be the best repellent and most frequently used by the military. There are products on the market that are not as strong as what they use but are effective. I...

    Do you swim in the lake/river/pond when you go camping?

    man...not good. Crocs you say? The idea that they might be in the same waters could give me a bit of a heart burn. Then - you may have the same feeling seeing a black bear roam through the camp site. :)

    Do you have to worry about wild bears where you live?

    ...one thing that I learned... Food sources and attractants Black bears and grizzlies are omnivores (from Latin: omni all, everything; vorare to devour). They eat both plants and animals as their primary food source, but will take the opportunity to eat other things if they are available. They...

    Do you have to worry about wild bears where you live?

    ...and speaking of bears I thought I would renew my knowledge of the same by taking a refresher course. I suggest that you do the same. This is an online course that I believe is available to just about anyone who wishes to take it for a small fee. Bear Aware: Working in Bear Country - St...

    Do you swim in the lake/river/pond when you go camping?

    ...I'm in the water as much as I can be. Our summer in this neck of the woods was hot and I enjoyed every minute I could be in the drink. Swishing through the lakes and rivers in a canoe makes swimming all the more inviting. Now and then I would dip my hat into the water and just let the drops...

    Fun with Gadgets

    I've made those lanterns too but I especially enjoy making a small wood stove for cooking - sure a lot cheaper than anything you can purchase at the big box store.

    Back in Everton with the Group

    Great to see you online @scrapper. The device that you see on the wood spaceman (one of the props I made) is a sensor night light. Our temperature range in this neck of the wood is a bit higher than normal. The week end ranged from a low of 5C (41F) to a high of 22C (72F) though the day...

    How do you tell the difference between a weed and a flower?

    First Aid [Wilderness Model] tells us to wash the infected area with water, wash thoroughly with soap and then gently rub a tad of skin cream. :)

    Looking forward to it. I've made some props - a large storm trooper's helmet, R2D2 (38), a hanging space man, etc. etc. I picked one of my tents that with a bit of imagination you could believe that it is a lunar landing craft. It is identified as much...

    LONGEST TRAIL on the PLANET--->

    @2sweed...you are welcome. Some of the trail comes through my neck of the woods and I'm planning a short hike. I expect some will try to tackle the entirety of the trail but it's just a bit big for me. [Well okay...a lot big!] However, I've decided to do something different for next years...
