    Wolf/Bear encounters?

...so - are you a weekend warrior or do you get a chance to get away into the interior for some canoe camping?

    Wolf/Bear encounters?

I guess you don't want to hear that I have three Alaknaks? For the Eureka - yep - a solid sleeping bag with insert. I bought a pair of those sleeping booties (the down feather filled) that I wear. Sometime I use an Alagash cot depending how long I intend to be out. As you might suspect I'm a...

    Hello from Maine

We aim for four but because of the time commitment it often falls to two of us. And I'm not bashful about going on my own either. And with a dog. In my neck of the woods I tend to hang within the boundaries of Algonquin Park, Haliburton Forest and the Haliburton Water Way Trail system. (Ontario)...

    Wolf/Bear encounters?

Fantastic! I've done that too - but alas, I tend to take my four season Alaknak in by sled. I was out at the beginning of January and took my Eureka because I wanted to travel light. It rained most of the night.

    Hello from Maine

Our first trip is June 20th for a three weeker. We will be meeting this week to plan menus and such - I don't know why we do that because we really haven't changed the menu in years. But then again - getting together is all part of the fun.

    Hello from Maine

ZACK I'm crazy too; I'm well equipped with excellent equipment and like to get out in the snow. Though of recent date we seem to be having a real problem keeping it on the ground. :)

    Wolf/Bear encounters?

I camp in black bear country regularly and though they have come threw camp they have not posed a problem. I have taken a course and I do carry bear spray and have been taught how to use it. If a bear is stalking you one needs to take immediate defensive manners - bears only stalk with one...

Are there wolves where you live?

Coyotes seem to be a problem just about everywhere. They are pack animals and unlike the wolf they are not afraid to come closer to human kind. There was a documentary on the Coyotes of Toronto. They seem to be content to live among us.

    Camping stories

Fabulous story - and it reminded me of a similar experience that me and a buddy had. The area we were camping/canoeing was very familiar and we enjoyed the semi isolation in that there were few people in the area. It was really hot on this particular day - one of those blistering days that...

    New for 2016...

...same here - my colleagues get tired of my camp talk and like you I like reading the posts. Though, I'm very active and will be absent for most of the summer camping and canoeing and getting away from it all sort of speak. :)

What Is Your Favorite Insect Repellant

...but then again in our neck of the woods, come spring in the north - mosquitoes, deer flies, horse flies, and ticks are in abundance and I use powerful stuff to protect myself. :) This is what a Muskoka Mosquito looks like - as you can appreciate it comes with an attitude. :finger:
