A great pack for the canoe and for general camping...
Barrels are appealing to use while canoeing because they are waterproof, seal in food smells, and are *difficult for bears to break into. (* But not bear proof.) Barrels are easy to manage - you can pack them into the canoe, lift them up into the trees, use them as seats and tables, and the straps are adjustable for body frames.
You can pack as much as 65 lbs. The Vapor Flatbed is totally comfortable to carry with this much weight.
Like all Granite Gear packs, the thickly padded hip belt is comfortable and can be cinched down tight enough so you are carrying most of the weight on your hips instead of your shoulders.
It has all the necessary bells and whistles for adjusting the load just right, with wide shoulder straps, load lifting straps, stabilizer straps on the hip belt, and even a sternum strap.
A complete set is around $150.00
Some of my colleagues use only the barrel for transporting...the cost (when the item has been on sale - without the straps) has been as low as $75.00 - as you can see it has handles at the top to carry or lift.
