GLAMPING [There...I said it]

NOT FOR ME BUT IT IS A GROWING TREND

Recently, a global trend has caught fire that offers outdoor enthusiasts an upgrade on rest and recreation. It's called glamping, a new word for a new kind of travel, defined as glamorous camping.


When you're glamping, there's no tent to pitch, no sleeping bag to unroll, no "journey" to use a bathroom. Whether in a tent, yurt, air stream, pod, igloo, hut, villa, cabin, cube, tee pee or tree house, glamping is a way to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury.

Glamping - a fusion of glamour and camping - emerged internationally and came across the Atlantic to North America over the last decade. Both independent properties and global hospitality brands have capitalized on an elevated demand for travellers of all ages who want to experience the positive aspects of camping without the "uncomfortable" negatives. Glamping pivots on a high level of service that focuses on the complete comfort of the guests. The amenities found at glamping destinations far exceed anything recreational campers’ experience.

...sure do @bulldoginajeepwithacolt. When I was at Camp Norval we had a fabulous tree house. The youth waited days to get their chance to sleep in it. True, not as fancy as we talk about but it was adventurous all the same.

I remember asking you all on here what glamping was. If a person wanted to invest some money, this could be a great business. Glad to see you two on line also. Been a little quiet on here past few, of course I ain't contributed much.

...though I do have to say that when my base camp is fully operational I lack absolutely nothing in terms of comfort. I have an excellent tent with military cot and firm mattress. I have heat if necessary and lights generated by solar power. I can listen to soft classical music or watch a DVD. My Kitchener shelter protects me from the elements and allows me to dine in comfort. I have a wash station that can be equipped with an outdoor toilet and shower.

But alas there is no service or servants - whatever needs to be done I do. I guess that is why I'm still not considered a glamper. And I'm more than happy to do what I do.

Definitely a subscriber to the "basecamping" philosophy. Kinda like glamping without the glamour of scantily clad servants in yurts and such...

Good to see you guys too! Just got back from a week of "basecamping" on Wellesley Island in the 1000 Islands area.

@Northern Dancer, didn't you you just get back from a trip?

-----> The trip is scheduled for Monday 7th of August. I'm packed, the canoe is ready, and if the weather holds out it should be a great trip. We changed our location and our menus to spice it up a bit this year. Yep - photos will follow.

And of course one must explore from a boat driven by some kids to take in a lot of the various islands and two castles, Singer and Boldt.

I bet the doctor that owns this weekend getaway and trolling boat knows a thing or two about glamping in proper fashion...

After all his Yurt looks pretty comfy and his river raft seems to be outfitted for a true nautical expedition.

Yes it was, and the company was the best! Wellesley State Park was the location and our campsite was in fact really good. This park had even better ones that had rock ledges that you coud jump off right into the St. Lawrence River.

Just need to work on coming up with a better mosquito defense system for camping...

Santee State Park in South Carolina - stopped there for 2 nights when we drove from Florida to home.
