EVERY JURISDICTION WILL HAVE REQUIREMENTS. Federal, State, and Provincial regulators will demand certain pieces of information as well as organized parks and organizations. Other than the legal stuff it is a smart thing to do.
IN BRIEF your plan ought to contain at least this information.
- Description of the canoe/boat - including the size, colour and make including any I.D. numbers and markings.
- Number of persons on the trip/aboard - their names, addresses and medications they might be taking. [If you are a dog owner - medical papers including up-to-date rabies shot.]
- Your trip - were are you going and the area that you will be canoeing/boating. Time leaving, end destination, and return date and approximate time you plan to arrive home.
- Location of your vehicle - where you will be parking, along with a description, colour, markings and license plate number.
- THIS IS TRICKY - your float plan should also include the time you would like the person holding your plan (making sure that the person is available and not on holiday) to notify Provincial/State Police or designated official search party.
