    Never to much.

Getting my stuff ready for short 4 days of camping and fishing. Taking 2 sleeping bags, one for a buddy and one incase I need it. The weather is a little iffy. We will be transporting equipment by boat, so there is no need to scrimp on luxuries. It's a change for me because I always pack...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Making a little progress. The cat helped a little this time. I've got one more diagonal strand to go, and that should bring the shape in and finish the seat. But that will have to wait till next week, getting camping stuff together. Leaving Wednesday evening.

    What does the name mean?

Interesting. The Cherokee Reservation, just over the mountains in North Carolina, have casinos there now. The Cherokee there weren't very financially prosperous till the casinos came. The Cherokee nation are slowly buying some of their tribal lands back. My personal belief is that the Tennessee...

Warm one day Snow the next.

80° Saturday and we went bicycle riding. The dogwood trees, orchids and other spring flowers are blooming. There was even a turtle enjoying the warm sun shine. Now it is 32° and snowing. Hard to get a good picture of the snow blowing by the dogwood tree, but it's there.

    Canoe seat upgrade

You can't beat the aluminum canoes. Experimental seat #3. I plotted and drilled holes for weaving the cane. Gave it the big butt test and now it's ready to weave the seat material. I don't want to hear any fat jokes either.

    What does the name mean?

You ever wonder how your state park or favorite lake, river or waterway got its name? Several in this part of Tennessee are given Cherokee Indian names, of course most all of this area belonged to the native people of the Cherokees. I live near a lake named after the once great nations of native...

How To Get Back Into A Kayak Safely

They sure make it look easy. I've been in a kayak, but I have flipped my canoe a few times. Never been to far from shore or to deep of water when I flipped either. Good information.

Dutch Oven Cooking In A Campfire

Was that a picture of corn bread? Nothing makes better corn bread then a cast iron skillet. The trick is to preheat the cast iron then pour in the batter. The Dutch oven I have has a cast iron lid that can be turned up-side down and used as a frying pan. I just put the whole thing in the coals...

Dutch Oven Cooking In A Campfire

Hello and welcome crashmonster, would like to see your pictures. Ever since I done an update, several months ago, I have to post pictures differently on my droid phone. I used to pull pics from the gallery selection but now I have to use attachment, go figure. 2sweed sure makes my mouth water...

The Outdoors is for Lovers ----->

I look over it once in awhile, but I like reading off paper better. I can cram a magazine or paper back book in my work area at work. Cell phones are huge No No,s, as well reading material, but they won't fire me over a magazine. Harder to read on my cell phone, but I do manage with a good pair...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Yes I want to build a wood strip canoe. I've been clearing the tools and stuff along a wall in my work area just for that. But I feel I must master the canoe seat first.

    Canoe seat upgrade

Digging it up again, or should I? I've got enough red oak, I think, for 2 canoe seats. Got the strips to 7/8 x 1 3/4 that's 19 x 44.5 mm for y'all on metric. It feels a little springy when I stand on 2 of the strips. I had the blocks spaced out 35 inches, 890mm, apart, and I was standing in...

    Morning drift fishing

Hello and welcome MickiO. I enjoy getting out anytime I can, and enjoy posting pictures and things. I sort of went through a phase where I thought unless I had some big multi day camping trip, that I shouldn't post anything. Well I take what I can get, and love it. I hit the river again...

    A Sleep System

I don't mean to make hammock camping sound bad or anything, but careful of what is growing on, or living near the base of what you are hugging and tying your stuff to. Hammocks are very comfortable and enjoyable to sleep in.

    A Sleep System

I thought a hammock would be light and minimal equipment, but by the time i got everything I need for cold weather it really added up. I'm a novice at this and here is my list of gear I need for cold "0°C, 32°F". Hammock, tree straps, tarp & mosquito net (if needed), under quilt, special...
