    Saving the Tent Floor

This reminds me of one overnight camping trip when my wife and I stayed in a tent together with one of our dogs. We were huddled together, nice and easy until the rains came unexpectedly. In a few minutes, we felt the rain water seeping on the floor of the tent. And when the sleeping bag started...

    Portable stove with LPG tank

I had experienced going on a camping trip with a portable stove LPG tank (liquefied petroleum gas). One of our companions brought one since, he said, the camp is less than an hour of walk from the parking area. Uh, okay, you carry it yourself. And when we came to the woods, there was nothing, no...

    All river fishing trip.

Wow, those are great pictures. And it's a real adventure with the canoe. What I had in mind is a river fishing together with camping by the river bank. There is a place here like that in a nearby province where we go on family camping trips. The river bank is sandy like a beach that is ideal...

    Summer Heat

This reminds me of our camping trip this last summer. It's fortunate that we decided to go overnight in one mountain resort with a pool. After pitching the tents, everyone took a dip to refresh. Fine. But after dinner when we're supposed to have a camp fire, it was a unanimous decision to just...

A compass, a thread, and a map... do you bother?

I don't remember using a map for directions when on a camping trip. We usually have a guide to assist us in going to our destination. In times that there is no guide, what we have is the sketch. There was a time that we had lost the trail due to an error in the sketch. What we did was to...

    Animal Encounters On The Trail

The only dangerous animals here are the wild boar which is rare now. When in the wilderness, snakes are the most dangerous but they are not predators of humans. When walking in a trail, a walking stick can prevent an encounter with snakes. It's ironic that my encounter with a big snake occurred...

Barbecue is the easiest to cook

Barbecue is the most commom food in campsites. Chicken, pork, other meats, fish and even vegetables can bebarbecued. Just get some wood if there is no charcoal. Big branches that are dry can give you a good fire. Use a stick if you have no grilling iron. There you go.

Choice Between Hiking Boots or Trail Runners

I would still go for tge hiking boots anytime. Aside from the protection it provides, the elevation of the rear sole has the proper angle so the feet are comfortable in walking. Flat shoes are not recommended for walking distances for it strains the feet.

    Don't wear shorts

This is my advice to the young campers - don't wear shorts. A camper's primary conern is the skin because camping means going to inhospitable environment. The skin is the first target of the elements hence campers are usually covered well with long sleeve shirts. I enjoy wearing denims or any...

Would you buy a kayak, canoe or a boat?

I have a friend who is an army officer. When he retired, he bought a small motorboat that he brings to the sea for his hobby. The boat is kept in his home. He has a trailer that his suv pulls when he goes on a trip to the beach resort. I could see that he is having so much fun since it is a...

    Camping Nude

I have to admit that I was attracted by this thread's title. Pardon me but I don't think I could go camping in the nude. Not really because of decency but more due to the elements. My skin is sensitive and surely I would develop rashes and irritation. However, I would love to see a nude camp...

    When there is no food

Some campers have experienced running out of food and the usual solution is to cut short their camping trip. But during my camping days when I was assistant scout master, lack of food is a good challenge to cultivate the creativity of the scouts. In those situations, I learned extraordinary...

    TICK TIME

I am very particular with skin problems when in a camping venue. Especially with insects, I'm always on the lookout. The usual insect that pesters me are mosquitoes and flies although sometimes ants also torment me. I would dread the day that ticks would be sucking my blood. I always bring...

    Overnight on a boat

Have you experienced spending overnight on a small boat or a yacth? To be honest, I don’t go for that kind of trip where you spend the night on the water. You don’t know what’s in the water at night huh. There was a beach resort here called Matabungkay where there are rafts with a room floating...

What are your favorite wild edibles?

When I went camping with my cousins in Santa Rosa, California, we stayed in a mountain cabin that had no electricity but with water on the tap. It was really nice because it was a nature trip but we had the convenience of the kerosene stove. On our first morning, I woke up early to check the...

    Camping but weather not cooperating.

This reminds me of our family camping in a mountain resort. We came ready with tents and cooking implements. It was a great afternoon when we arrived and we had a nice dinner by the camp fire. At around 8 pm, we were already preparing for bedtime. And then the winds came followed by the rains...

    DROWN PROOFING

Pardon me for asking but I wonder why there are so many such deaths by drowning. Perhaps the government should wage a campaign of awareness. Over here, when there is an accident like a wayward bus that went off the cliff, there would be a campaign to stir awareness on the safety of driving. Last...

    Any body out there?

I have my normal job in online, tasks at home and social obligations. But for camping, our planned camping trip is early next month of May. It is the volcano resort where we would do a little climbing to see the crater of Taal Volcano, reputedly one of the smallest volcano in the world. Down...

    A stranger in the campsite

Have you been to a campsite that is alien to you like you don’t know anything? It is a great challenge is you will consider the dangers that might be lurking. How about the rebels or criminal elements? And not to forget the wild animals that can harm you. There’s also the chance of unfriendly...

Sowing seeds that you eat in the campsite

There is a saying among campers and hikers that when you go to the woods, what you leave are footprints only and what you take home are pictures only. But what about if there are fruits around? As per my experience, it is common to find fruit trees in the woods especially when the place is...
