    Remember Those Hiking Boots

Back in 08 when things slowed at work, I had 3 days off a week, it was great. My wife and I would drive about 2 hrs to the smoky mtn national park, and do day hikes. I had a new pair of inexpensive hiking shoes that I had worn very little. We took off one morning for mount lecont which is about...

    Remember Those Hiking Boots

Hello 2sweed, I have extra wide feet, so I always have problems finding a 13 extra wide in most outdoor stores around here also. I am beginning to wonder if shoe manufacturers just avoid producing many of them because of the extra material that it takes. I have to wear steel toed shoes here at...

    Hello from Maine

Naw I wouldn't trade my wife for any thing, or anyone. Actually we had several dogs over the years, and the last 2 were pomeranians. The last one died last spring. Born in this house soon after we moved here. They are very loving and dependant companions. Broke my hart.

    Hello from Maine

Wow three weeks. I wonder if I could find my wife a boyfriend. I figure after 31 years of being married to my sorry hind end she may be glad to get rid me for a couple of weeks. Oh and I love dogs to. The one on the left we had since he was a puppy. What do ya expect for up in these hills? At...

    Hello from Maine

Well hello Zack from Maine. Glad to have ya. I am from north east tn., I always say north east because we are different from the rest of the state, I watched the last bit of snow we had in our yard melt today as it got to about 70 degrees. I have winter camped a few times, but the lack of snow...

    Camping stories

Love it! This poem is for you. To embarrassed to ask for a lift, when you are nude and your canoe is adrift, so next time beware when you are bare.

    Camping stories

I know there is alot of people that read the camping forum posts, and never post anything themselves. That's ok. But I love camping stories as much as anyone, and it's the closest thing I am going to get for a couple more months. Besides they haven't kicked my long winded story telling hind off...

Thanks for putting up with me. I don't get out there often enough, and reading what people post about camping experiences and equipment is very enjoyable for me.

What Is Your Favorite Insect Repellant

I realy do hate mosquitoes. Those fingers must be so they can turn a drill and bore a hole to a vein. When I was about 6 we went to Minnesota, and I remember looking at my arm with a couple of small streams of blood running down it. Being 6 years old I was horrified the mosquitoes back home in...

What Is Your Favorite Insect Repellant

Welcome CARiD glad to have you. I started taking an inexpensive garlic substitute years ago mostly because my mom and wife said it supposed to help keep colesterol down. It is odorless, and for me it has improved my slightly weird skin iching condition, and it appears to keep mosquitoes at bay...

    New for 2016...

Yes that's true. I know keeping a clean camp, food and stuff sealed up, but what about coolers or are those just a bad choice? Do you hang your barrels or do they seal tight enough that what ever residual smell that may be lingering isn't enough to matter? Luckily the only problems I have had...

    New for 2016...

I was wondering also about the red LED lights. I figured they would give the bear a better chance finding me. I'll be missing and the search team would find the red lights in some bear scat. Ha. I don't worry about the black bears to much in this area it's the snakes I keep an eye out...

The shorter canoes don't track as well, it's about like a kayak. I use my mad river 15.6 if I go canoe camping. It's the heavy one about 80 pounds, the triple tuff heavy stuff, but I don't have to portage on these lakes, and it can handle a pretty good load.

Wow the Souris river makes some awsome canoes. My wife caught me asleep drooling on that page, or it might have been the H20 canoes that were displayed in canoe roots paddling guide. But being the tight wad I am, I thought I would save a couple of hundred.

    The Ideal Weapon

I like the pepper spray if I need protection. I figured if I encountered someone trying to do me harm while camping, and I have to take them down, then my little ole 3 inch pocket knife would make sure he never has any kids that would follow in his foot steps. And if you get dragged into court...

It's a mohawk solo 13. I bought from the dealer in Chattanooga a couple of years ago. I replaced the cheap plastic end pieces with wood. I think they are called breast plates. It is the R84 material weighs about 43 pounds. I bought it for carrying above some shoals in a river I enjoy fishing.
