    Auld Lang Syne

2017 was an interesting year, to say the least. I actually had a couple of camping trips that I didn't have to wear my rain gear most of the time, so what an improvement over 2016. Camped on a great trout stream in the mountains, of course the trout didn't cooperate very well. Spent 4 days with...

    "Wanna" see YOUR magnificent trails...

This is where the Appalachian trail crosses the Watauga lake dam. Sorry, I wasn't about to go hiking this morning. I was on the lake goofing off. It was 27°F with a stiff wind. The trail in the woods was hard to see, but I saw someone wearing a red jacket running on it. The trail climbs up to...

    I Like Lights!

Got a couple of new toys, I love things that light up. Plus it actually serves as a power supply. Not really anything I would try to attach to my hat, but it doesn't weigh much. I set my glasses pouch next to it for a size comparison. No brand name anywhere. The box says work light. Oh and they...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Ready to order the cane. Rough sanded and smoothed edges with a wood rasp. Brought up stairs and sat at table to plot holes for caning. Retreated to basement with fudge, and marked spots with punch for drilling. Drilled, finish sanding and put natural stain on it. I'll polyurethane it tomorrow...

    It died!

I've got a Sven camp saw. It packs small and cuts great. It feels a little flimsy, but so far holding up well. I use it more than my hatchet for gathering firewood. Coffee and apple pie this morning uumm uumm good. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    It died!

The trusty Mr Heater died. I was in the basement working on my future canoe seat, and it coughed, sputtered and klunked dead out. I took it apart and cleaned it's orfices, that doesn't sound very proper, but that's what I did. The pilot will light and heater does start to heat, but doesn't last...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Thank you for the encouragement @campforums. I meant to get back to work on it sooner, but time slips away. I chopped a little on a couple of mortise, and messed one up a bit, so I thought I would take a break and peel some taters, and play camping cooking with some walleye, wow was that great...

    Canoe seat upgrade

Ha... yep a few months later and I am trying to revive my seat plans. I had the rails and stiles taped together and set aside. Good time of year to start it back up. Got to cut my mortise,s and I guess order a roll of plastic cane. My book shows how to weave it. I was going to order the weaved...

There is someone on the road

Hello and welcome @Recepaliskan. Yes your English is fine. I enjoyed the pictures on your page. Turkey looks like a pretty area being near mountains, deserts, sea and forests. Motorcycle camping looks like freedom on wheels. I would have to pull a trailer to carry all my camping gear, Ha. Sent...

    Ok.... Who's Hibernating?

Ooh boy that's cold. Worst I remember was winter of 77. We were out of school for a solid month. It wasn't really the snow that kept us out, it was the ice on the roads. We get more problems with ice then snow here. Snow has enough time to melt a little and then the temperature drops suddenly...

    "Wanna" see YOUR magnificent trails...

Winter in the Smokey Mtns at Mt LeConte. I had all kinds of pictures when my wife and I went, but they are on the computer at home. The Alum Cave Bluff trail is the shortest trail up there. They make deliveries with lamas, but they start at the top of mountain on the Appalachian trail. It's a...

    Ok.... Who's Hibernating?

It's supposed to be in the low 20s and maybe teens tonight. Clear sky and great view of the stars. I asked around here at work if any one wanted to do a one night camping river trip, and they looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head. Of course it is a bit cold Sent from my...

    OK Who's Camping This Winter?

We got our first snow this winter. Not much but we are in the south, a little. So who's camping this winter? I would love to go camp in the snow one of these days. It's something I've never done. Bucket List. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Home Made Grab & Go Granola Bars

That sounds good! It would make for good rewarding treat for hiking. She is right about the store bought granola bars, they are basically sugary candy bars. Thanks for idea. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    The Mighty Sleeping Bag

I'm getting to the point where I am not comfortable in a sleeping bag. I move around to much. I have been thinking about making a down quilt. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    Laurel Run

Thank you @Madman4800. We try to encourage each other to get out and hike more even if it's for a couple of hours. I am guilty of sitting on my hind end watching tv. I'd love to go back and do the day hikes that we did 9 years ago in the smokey mtns and parts of the AT. It's just the 4 to 5...

    Falling through the ice....

I was over at my parents house today, and asked my father what he used to do. He said he would have a couple of big nails tied to a string incase he fell through. He took me ice fishing a couple of times when we lived in Michigan. I was a young pup then. I remember how thick the ice would be...
