Do you swim in the lake/river/pond when you go camping?

I'm not a big swimmer. I know that doesn't sound right from someone who likes to be on the water fishing and camping, but I hate getting wet. But to answer your question, as long as the water is clean and 76 F or warmer (I hate cold water) it doesn't matter to me.

    My new coffee maker

I've always prefered fresh coffee. I have nothing against instant. I have always liked a little instant coffee and peanut butter in chocolate ice cream. Uummm sure is good.

You have three kids and one backpack, what do you take on the trail?

Rope and book of knots in case they get on your nerves. Maybe take some honey and smear a little on them then wait to see what critters come out of the woods to lick em. Ha just kidding. I think it's great to take young kids out hiking and camping. Both of my daughters are 26 and 30 now, and I...

How do you tell the difference between a weed and a flower?

Last spring on a river camping trip with my nephew, I slipped and fell into some stinging nettle. When I text my wife what I should do, she replied to pick some plantain, chew it and rub it on my arm. She has showed me what it looked like, but I was a little skeptical about chewing on something...

    "Wanna" see YOUR magnificent trails...

Took morning hike yesterday morning on our local city park. The otter came out to greet us when we passsed by his personal pond and habitat area, as we headed for the trail head that lead around the lake. Sometimes we see deer at the edge eating on the vegitation, but I think they had...

How do you tell the difference between a weed and a flower?

. Good question. These are our herbs growing in back of the house. There is basil, thyme, rosemary, and parsley. The flowering one is chives, and the tall scraggly thing that looks almost dead is mulane. The mulane had pretty blooming yellow petals on top last month. It isn't an herb, but the...

Do you have to worry about wild bears where you live?

We have black bears in this area. I don't worry to much about them, but I have been learning to keep a clean camp free of cooking debris and smells. It is uncommon for a bear to maul someone here near the Cherokee national park, but it has happened. Most of what I hear is people get to close to...

Do you ALWAYS wear a life jacket?

In Tennessee anyone 12 and under is required by law to wear an approved pfd when on board any water craft. I wear mine when I am moving in my boats. If it is hot out I take mine off when not running the big motor on my boat. I try to always wear it when I am in the canoe. Sometimes it seems...

    LONGEST TRAIL on the PLANET--->

That is an amazing trail. I have read a short article about how goods were transported from coast to coast by canoe through Canada. I would guess that helped create parts of this trail.

Camping in Groups or On Your Own

Camping with a group is fun, and I greatly enjoy the comadarie of close family and friends. But sometimes I just feel I need a little alone time.

    My new coffee maker

Yes the filter basket fit in top of my coffee mug. All I had to do is pour the hot water from pan and wait for it to strain through coffee grounds. I got tired of the bulk of a perk coffee pot.

    Best brand of fishing poles?

Wow that's a tuff question. I think a rod and reel combo would be your best bang for the buck. I have always been partial to Shimano brand, spin cast would be the most versatile. Of course other brands like Mitchel, Abu Garcia, Quantum, lews and etc. make some nice products. Most decent...
